Jagath is a filmmaker and photographer who lives in Sydney with his family. He is interested in depicting moments of human frailty and acts of humanity. In the early 1990s he was forced to leave Sri Lanka owing to political and human rights activism and granted political asylum in France. He moved to Australia in 2008.
Jagath is an Amnesty International Human Rights Innovation Fund Grant recipient. He has presented his work in a number of exhibitions including Another day in paradise at Cambelltown Arts Centre (2017), and Family Keeps Us Going: Portraits and Stories of Families of Aboriginal Nations Living in South-West Sydney (2016) at the State Library of New South Wales.
