Artists Wona Bae (South Korea) and Charlie Lawler (Australia) are a collaborative team based between Tasmania and Melbourne, known internationally for their installations and sculptures that navigate the visceral and symbiotic connections between people and nature.
Their installations are often site-specific and create a dialogue with the surrounding architecture or space. Central to their practice are the essences of minimalism, harmony and balance. Their work combines installation, sculpture, relief, sound, and photographs documenting ephemeral interventions.
Notable recent solo exhibitions include Happy Hour, Backwoods Gallery (2022), En Route, Heide Museum of Modern Art (2019/2020). Bae and Lawler were invited to present a new work ‘Regenerator 2021’ as part of The National, Art Gallery of New South Wales (2021). They were finalists in the Wynne Prize 2022, Art Gallery of New South Wales (2022) Northern Beaches Environmental Art Prize, Manly Museum and Art Gallery (2021) and winners of the Yering Gallery Award, Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition & Awards (2019) and winner of the Yarra Valley Arts/RACV Award, Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition & Awards (2018).
