Andy Hutson

Andy Hutson is a visual artist living and working in nipaluna/Hobart. He completed an MFA at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008, and his sculptural work has been exhibited at galleries, museums and artist run spaces across Australia, including MONA, Daine Singer (Melbourne) and Egg & Dart (Sydney). Hutson has also presented work at both Dark Mofo and Mona Foma festivals. Most recently he was awarded the significant VACS Major Commissioning Projects grant from Creative Australia for the collaborative project Apologue Isle.

Hutson's work leans towards the low-fi and handmade, using everyday materials like wood, cardboard and found objects to tell stories about the natural world, and our role within it. Storytelling, play, and chance are key features of Hutson’s practice, which occasionally veers into the large scale, and often includes kinetic or interactive elements. He also sometimes makes jewellery and functional objects.
