Jonny Scholes is an emerging artist from Nipaluna, Lutruwita. His practice spans new media, street art, painting, internet art, and installation. He is passionate about understanding the world, particularly in areas of geopolitics, news media, ethics, futurism, and technology.
He learned to program at the age of 13 when, after getting bored of the few computer games his parents allowed him to play, he started breaking them in ways that enabled him to do new things. A few years later he applied the same philosophy to finding urban spaces few people knew about. Scholes' work sits at the intersection of technology and exploration of in-between spaces. He often uses his knowledge of computer systems, networks, and cultures to impart an understanding of technology to his audience or to explore contemporary social issues.
Scholes has had several solo exhibitions, including "Lost Bedrooms" in 2024 and "Interpreted" in 2023. He was included in Vault Magazine 44 for their Forecast section that interviews emerging Australian artists and has been commissioned to create new works for MONA FOMA, Dark MOFO and Arts Tasmania. Scholes has also participated in numerous group shows and collaborations across the world including Adelaide, Naarm and Bristol (UK).
